N-glycans attached to enzymes that contain the M6P motif are recognized by the Mannose-6-phosphate (M6P) receptor (CI-MPR) which plays a critical role in cellular uptake and intracellular transport of such enzymes to lysosomes. This M6P ligand is reactive with thiols such as Cysteines found in proteins and antibodies.
