Sialoside analogs (such as R-Neu5Acα2-6LacNAc) are selective, high-affinity ligands of Siglecs. The sialic acids are chemically modified at the C-5 or C-9 positions with non-natural substituents. These ligands can be used for targeting immune cells with therapeutics encapsulated in liposomal nanoparticles decorated with Siglec ligands.
